Javier "Jay" Ruiz has always had a love and an ear for all types of music as a young kid. It started out with drum lessons by the age of 8 and that is when his true passion for drums developed. By the time he was 12, he was playing drums full time at his church, where he still plays. During that time he had the chance to be a part of many choir clinics, concerts, and tours. He also had the opportunity of traveling to many states to assist in workshops with his musical director, who is also a Gospel recording artist. Shortly after, Jay began making a name for himself in the local music scene where he began doing fill in spots for local bands, such as Hit & Run, RAD, and Sound Remedy. This quickly led to him joining Dirty Lil' Secret, which developed later after co-founding it with a couple members from a previous band. In this same time frame, Jay had also been asked to fill in with Mid October for a couple shows. He ended up joining them permanently and shortly thereafter they won a MAMA Award. Throughout the years with these bands, Jay has had the privilege of opening up for many high profile artists such as Starset, Otherwise, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, RATT, We Are Harlot, John 5, Flaw, MESSER, and many others, as well as playing the world famous Whisky A Gogo in Hollywood numerous times. Jay still shares this same love and passion for the drums today as it continues to develop stronger daily, and playing Zion Cymbals has helped him express himself as the unique artist he has become. He has truly found his sound with Zion.
